About Us
Our Values
Integrity, First & Foremost
We know our values and we do not compromise on them. We honour our commitments, we make sure our actions match our words, and we are always open and respectful to others.
Grit and Resilience
Fall seven, rise eight. Setbacks are inevitable and mistakes will be made – we are only human after all. We see these as incredible opportunities to help make us stronger in the long run, and we are grateful for them when they happen.
Drive & Passion
Our team share a deep love for nature and a passion for protecting the environment. We find a deep sense of purpose in the work we do. We are hungry and determined to contribute to the solutions addressing the nature crisis.
Humility & Collaboration
We owe our existence and success to society and our planet. We also know that our work is a mere drop in ocean in the grand scheme of things. We seek to have an outsized impact by fostering deep partnerships with likeminded people – entrepreneurs, other investors, government, corporates, and academia.
Growth Through Learning
We are inquisitive and introspective. Often we don’t have the answers, but we look to ask the right questions. We actively challenge ourselves and each other whilst having fun along the way. Achievement is a byproduct of growth – we are focused on the process and not the outcome, the journey rather than the destination.
Innovation & Originality
The status quo (that led us into this mess) must be disrupted. To tackle the crisis effectively, we need innovative solutions and new ways of thinking. We back novel technologies and first-of-its-kind financial mechanisms, and seek creative ways of effecting change. This includes our accelerator, for example.
-
Humans are a part of and not apart from nature.
The natural living world underpins human existence. It offers tremendous economic, social and environmental value.
Nature is our biggest ally and greatest inspiration. We all have an innate emotional affiliation with nature, and biodiversity should be valued in its own right.
-
Birds, mammals and amphibians have been going extinct 100 to 1000 times faster than we would expect.
The focus on climate change and carbon is important, but the wider issue around biodiversity loss and the destruction of natural habitats receives less attention even though it is equally if not more important.
-
Although nature and biodiversity play key roles in making our food systems more resilient, agriculture has historically been the biggest cause of biodiversity loss, through the destruction of habitats and the overexploitation of natural resources.
We must halt further industrial farmland expansion and adopt a landscape restoration agenda for depleted lands.
Regenerative agriculture is the right form of agriculture. It represents a shift in paradigm in our relationship with nature from one of domination to cooperation, to offer higher financial, ecological, and social returns.
To preserve the health of oceans, sustainable aquaculture and innovations must also be scaled.
-
As stewards of natural capital, we should aim to have a healing impact on landscapes; we must aim beyond ‘sustainable’ and towards positive, regenerative impacts on both land and sea.
Important natural habitats and biodiversity hotspots can only be protected and conserved effectively when done in collaboration with the local communities.
Local communities have a direct relationship with the environment around them, and can offer a wealth of local knowledge. It is vital that local communities have a just and fair share of the rewards of conservation.
-
Our role as investors is to fund biodiversity-positive business models and to help demonstrate the financial viability of nature-based solutions.
To effectively protect natural habitats, we need to put a dollar value on the positive externalities of carbon, water, and biodiversity, and create a well-functioning market for ecosystem services.
